Celebration or festivity is two kinds:
Permanent and current.
Current one is further classified into two viz., that
are
1) connected with any personality relating to a particular period
2)
connected to any event for their remembrance.

Deepavali, Mahavir
Jayanti, Jannmaashtami are connected with one personality.
Based on the epic
stories such as Akshaya Trtiya, Holi, Rakshabandhan are
connected with
events.

But permanent ones are neither connected with any personality or
event. It is
connected with Self – Soul. It is to understand and bring out
the sacred and
unique qualities of the soul, which is normally engulfed or
entrenched in
worldly affairs.

There is a limitation for all the
current festivities as infinite personalities
and event have come and gone
and the festivity connected with any one
personality or event ends with the
end of the half time cycle.

Permanent festivities are not based on any one personality or event. The Soul is
permanent and its qualities are also
permanent.

When the potential of the soul is contemplated upon and one
attempts to bring
them out, that is permanent observance.

Shri
Dasalakshan Parva or Paryushana Parva and Ashtahnika are
permanent
festivals.

Shri Dasalakshan Parva is ten characteristics or
dharma of the soul.

Supreme forbearance, Supreme modesty, Supreme
straightforwardness, Supreme
purity, Supreme truthfulness, Supreme
self-restraint, Supreme austerity, Supreme
renunciation, Supreme
non-attachment and Supreme celibacy.

Hence, the Paryushana festival is
observed by the Digambar Jains for 10 days;
each day dedicated to one virtue
or characteristics of the soul.

11th day is Kshamavani.  Asking for
pardon from others by words or letters. This
erases the ill feelings that
might have erupted for any one on any other.

In reality, one has to seek
pardon from oneself since, by embracing mithyatva,
one has harmed one's
soul.

Special accent is given on Shri Dasalakshan Parva days to
reexamine the Soul and
take correctional steps.

Paryushanas are
observed thrice a year.
Between day 5th day (Panchami) and 14th
day(Chathurdasi)
From lunar new moon day in Maargazhi (January) Chittirai
(April) and Purattasi
(September).
