“Education develops the intellect; and the intellect distinguishes man from other creatures. It is education that enables man to harness nature and
utilize her resources for the well-being and improvement of his life.
The key for the betterment and completeness of modern living is
education. But, ' Man cannot live by bread ...alone '. Man, after all, is
also composed of intellect and soul. Therefore, education in general,
and higher education in particular, must aim to provide, beyond the
physical, food for the intellect and soul. That education which ignores
man's intrinsic nature, and neglects his intellect and reasoning power
can not be considered true education.”  H.I.M Emperor Haile Selassie The First

I like to contemplate education in the context of their roughly 200,000 year evolution from first anatomically modern form in Africa. 40,000 years ago and thousands of miles distant, humans with flutes were dancing around the fire, fabricating tools, and painting on cave walls. 4,000 years ago they were cultivating plants and brewing beer. The discovery and transfer of knowledge was well underway.

I see education as two things. In one part, it is the transfer of old knowledge and ideas, and this is where institutions have become bogged down. In the higher part, it is the search for and development of new knowledges and applications.

Modern education is starting to realize more actively that the higher part should not be reserved for later in life. Quite naturally the young child is engaged in exploration and new learning. Young people, perhaps all people, have a greater capacity for discovery than for being instructed.. I like to encourge the discovery, providing guides (mentors) who stimulate and facilitate the discovery of knowledges and ideas, both old and new, and their integration with life's challenges and opportunities.

Schools as institutions are a relatively modern invention, but the open development and sharing of new knowledges and ideas dates back to the very beginning. At what point did we, or will we, stop discovering more than we already know?

Primary education necessitated for maintaining our daily livelihood stems from bookish knowledge we gained in schools, colleges... during graduation! Bookish knowledge can be gained by anyone but to gain wisdom (termed jnana in Hinduism) is difficult for many! For developing our intellect in a meaningful manner... gaining wisdom from scriptures is necessitated.

In simpler words... for living the 70 to 80 years of physical manifest life in a meaningful manner... knowledge is necessitated! For knowing our real self... our soul atman... the spirit within... we need to dive deep into bottomless pit of wisdom contained in sacred Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism! Really jnana (wisdom) is not contained in books... it flows by itself!

Journey of life is undertaken by our soul atman... the spirit within! It manifests human form to work out its karma... remove dross impurities within! Only by gaining wisdom from scriptures human beings finally removed veil of ignorance and developed their intellect! The journey ended with human beings gaining enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally salvation (moksha) in the end!

More on Wisdom vs. Knowledge and Importance of Education!

Dear Avyaktha,

According to the common men - education gives ,a......z knowledge to the life. Actually it is not. It has been creating number of problems. changes now and then is of no use. Real education -if provided asset to the world.

In the modern days - school education minority education - various medias most powerfull than education system. It is capable to feed (educate)within no time to the needy. Media education may be the last resort left to us as real education

Ambassador Yasus Afari

The rain drop is not separate from the cloud nor is man's intelect separate from his soul.  In order to educate a person fully the teacher must approach the lesson with all parts of the student in mind.  Indeed I am inspired by your words and hope to encourage to the world to recognize that there is no ailment of humanity that can not be cured with the remedy that is a true education.

Many blessings.

The heart is far closer to God than what the mind is. All true realization, understanding and compassion is kept (as a constant) in our heart (Being) not mind (ego). The mind is fleeting, unreliable and uncertain (always questioning reality and Life). Not so with the heart. The heart is always constant, certain, reliable and intuitive (true). The true goal of all spiritual life, practice and devotion is to realign our mind (ego) with heart (True Self/Spirit), not the other way around. When the lower self realigns with the Higher Self, we become free and content, we attain spiritual liberation - we attain union with The Lord and His All.

Mystic Blessings to you Yasus & Haile :))
