In reflecting on the recent attack at a Sikh gurdwara in Wisconsin, many people are citing their memories of sharing langar with the Sikh community in Barcelona during the 2004 Parliament of the World's Religions.  For many, it is a defining encounter with Sikhs and Sikhism.

If you were at the 2004 Parliament, or have other stories about langar to share, please share them below!

Here are a few going around on the web:

Please correct the year of Barcelona Parliament it was in 2004. Was there Langar during 1999 AND 2009 Parliaments and who arranged it?

I was there, and it was an amazing, beautiful experience. I am Indian, Hindu, and have been to temple many times, being fortunate enough to have had meals in similar settings. But, the Barcelona experience was special. The effort, the energy, the sense of serenity when we were being welcomed and hosted by the Sikh group was something truly different. The crowds were large, and yet everything was quiet and organized in such a way that each visitor felt they were a unique guest. It brought the whole event together, to be given the opportunity to share such meals with members and attendees who were at the event. Thank you to the Sikh group for allowing the rest of us to take part in this and demonstrate what globalization truly means at a practical level. And, of course, the food was wonderful.
