According to the UN, over 50 million girls in India are missing: having been aborted, killed, or neglected to death simply because they are female. In some regions, no baby girl has survived in years. Help us make a difference.

Hello all.  I believe that world peace begins with the building of inner peace within each individual, and, that inner peace is built through self respect and through building permanent understandings, or wisdom.  There is a unique opportunity to take action toward building inner peace in Chicago, by reflecting upon important topics, such as the power of thought and the opportunities available to us through exploring our dreams.  The School of Metaphysics is hosting documentary filmmaker Amy Hardie from Scotland March 3 - 6th in Chicago.  Amy's film The Edge of Dreaming was broadcast on PBS last summer.  Amy is leading workshops and giving lectures in conjunction with the screening of the film.  She will be at Columbia College (sponsored by their Film and Media Department) on Thursday, March 3rd, at the CG Jung Center in Evanston on Saturday, March 5, and at the Theosophical Society of America on Sunday, March 6 from 1 to 5.

Please register by calling the School of Metaphysics in Chicago, at 773-427-0155  or on-line at www.dreamschool.org.  There is no cost for attendance to these events, with the exception of the workshop at the C.J. Jung Center.  I hope to meet some of you soon, Diana.

It was good for me to hear the President of the Cook county Board. Toni Preckwinkle,  preach at our 1st Unitarian Church today on the Criminal Justice System inCook County.  (Chicago)  I am a little bit hopeful that there are things we can do to chip away at the disparity between Afro-american incarceration rates and those of others for the same arrests.  Do we really need to imprison 7 times as many people as we did in 1970? at $54,000 apiece, when Chicago only spends $16,00 per HS student?   How can we take the business out of the prison and jail business?  Maybe the rate of graduation in Chicago of Afro-american male high schoolers could rise above 40% and more young men could contribute to our peace and well-being.  Peace, Rosemary Snow

Dear Chicago friends,

I am a minister in the Interfaith Church of Metaphysics and a teacher with the School of Metaphysics. I am interested in establishing some interfaith dialogue groups, for people from all faiths to gather and discuss the principles, beliefs and practices of their religions. The purpose is understanding and, I would hope, peace through education.

I'd love it if you would like to attend and to invite any friends or colleagues!

I'd like to hold the first meeting of the interfaith dialogue group on Sunday, May 23rd at 2:30 pm. Hopefully that gives people who attend Sunday morning church time to arrive, and does not conflict with people who observe a Saturday Sabbath.

The meeting will be a the School of Metaphysics in Bolingbrook, 345 Manor Ct. It's right off Hwy.55, exit #267, also just off of IL 53.

I'm thinking we will meet for 60 - 90 minutes, depending on the group, and for the first meeting do introductions and address some basic questions, such as, What is your faith? What are the basic principles or tenets of your faith? And we can discuss what the group wants to address for future meetings.

I'll have some coffee and tea and perhaps light refreshments.

If you can attend, please RSVP, either by email to me at lclark@som.org, or by phone, 630-739-1329 (in Bolingbrook) or ask for me at School of Metaphysics World Headquarters, 417-345-8411. I'll be at the 417 number all week, through May 4th.

Thanks for your interest, and please feel free to pass this invitation on to anyone you know or think would be interested!

Best wishes,
Laurel

looks like there is a group meeting in the Chicago Area: Chicago Community-based Initiatives:
Please join us on April 14 for Critical Encounters Book Salon at Columbia College in partnership with the Project on Civic Reflection, Interfaith Youth Core and the Illinois Humanities Council for a discussion featuring “Hearing the Call Across Traditions: Readings on Faith & Service” to explore how the act of service to others is informed by spirituality and religion.
And there was a gathering in Chicago, Illinois on March 10, 2010
At McCormick Theological Seminary, organizer being Robert Cathey, Professor of Theology at McCormick Theological Seminary. He may be a good one to check in with as to any follow-up events.

Dear Kate,

How wonderful! I'd love to work with you to get this going. I have tried to continue contacts with people in the Chicago area since returning from Parliament and it has been surprisingly difficult ... people get involved with daily life, I suppose!

I can be reached at 630-739-1329 (Bolingbrook, IL) or my cell phone, 859-230-4146. I will give you a call this week when I am in Bolingbrook or later this week when I'm in Palatine. Feel free to call me or email at lclark@som.org.

Peace be with you,
Laurel

Dear Friends,

I was at the 1993 and the 2009 Parliaments and currently serve as President of the School of Metaphysics which has 3 locations in the Chicago area. I'm also a minister in the Interfaith Church of Metaphysics.

I am wanting to gather together people of all faiths for some interfaith dialogue groups ... informal, grass roots discussions for people in the Chicagoland area to learn from and about each other, to learn about the beliefs and practices of various religions.

Is anyone interested? Do any of you know who I might contact to get this going? I've contacted various churches, temples and mosques and have not received a response. Perhaps religious educators?

Any resource help would be appreciated! My email is lclark@som.org. Phone is 417-345-8411 or cell 859-230-4146. Peace be with you!

Also, for more info on the School of Metaphysics and our peace work, please view www.som.org and www.peacedome.org.
