In the aftermath of the Arizona shootings, I would like to be a more vocal proponent of gun control, and perhaps involve the interfaith community in a dialogue about the best way to support the gun control movement. Any suggestions?

I am strongly against keeping weapons in the home or automobile. They are more likely to be used on family, friends, neighbors, or in a fit of rage than to protect oneself from intruders or criminals. The best tactic you can use if to tell all of your local, state and national government representatives that you will not vote for them if they oppose any aspect of gun control. Unfortunately, that is a tactic that the NRA and gun supporters have used with considerable success.

Just because the U.S. Constitution allows gun ownership does not mean that it is correct. The Constitution also allows free speech, but inflammatory remarks too often lead to violence. I lived in San Francisco when our Mayor was murdered in his office and have supported Senator Diane Feinstein's opposition to private ownership of weapons. The NRA and weapons dealers say that "guns don't kill people; people kill people." People without guns, however, cannot shoot me.
