seeking to change minds, hearts and public policies on sexual violence and exploitation.
About Me:
Just out of graduate school, Alisa began working for Amnesty International’s Urgent Action Network. As a Coordinator for Amnesty’s Stop Violence Against Women Campaign in Colorado, Arizona, and Illinois, Alisa served as the AIUSA western region representative for the report and campaign, "Maze of Injustice: The Failure to Protect Indigenous Women from Sexual Violence in the USA". Alisa collaborated with indigenous tribal leaders, grassroots and political campaign strategists and marketing experts to support campaign strategy and actions. In 2010, the U.S. Congress approved an economic stimulus package that includes hundreds of millions of dollars to fund the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Indian Health Services. This victory is due in part because of AIUSA and the Maze of Injustice report.
As Communications Director for the 2009 Parliament of the World’s Religions, Alisa led a marketing team of twenty to historic success, surpassing media coverage generated by any previous Parliament. Believing in the power of new media to galvanize social justice movements, Alisa launched PeaceNext.org, an online community of thousands of interfaith activists from over 80 countries.
Alisa holds a B.A. in Humanities, an M.A. in Religious Studies, and wrote her thesis on Thomas Merton's Theology of the Self as Influenced by Christian Mysticism and Zen Buddhism. She went on to study Contemplative Social Action at Naropa University. Alisa is a graduate of Women Unlimited and was named an Emerging Leader of Chicago by the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN). Alisa serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors of Rape Victim Advocates, Chicago’s oldest direct response agency for survivors of sexual violence, consults with The Voices and Faces Project and was a delegate to the United Nations 55th Commission on the Status of Women and the launch of UN Women in March of 2011. Alisa has presented on new media and interfaith activism at universities and colleges across the country and at regional and national Amnesty USA conferences.

Posted on January 27, 2010 at 6:04pm 0 Comments

Shared Concerns and Commitments aimed to unite religious and civil society leaders for the common goal of “educating” the communities they serve about issues of shared concern. William Vendley, Secretary General of Religions for Peace and 2009 Parliament speaker describes the forum as a “very beautiful formula” that promotes religious diversity, and respect of others beliefs in cooperation. “When that happens, Muslims have said that they have become better Muslims and Christians said… Continue

Warm greetings, Alisa! I host a multifaith internet radio show -- Women of Prayer -- which will launch October 4, 2010. I am looking for dynamic souls to dialogue with. Do you have a strong practice of prayer, or insights about the role of prayer in women's lives? If so, you'd make an ideal guest. And if you've got a passion or a project you'd like to bring more attention to, we would both be well served. Let's talk!
