Psychology 3379: Psychology of Consciousness will be available during May term 2012. Texts will include: Benefield’s Mystical Consciousness: Crack in the Matrix, Trahan’s At Ease Breathing, and Kahneman’s Thinking, Fast and Slow. Yes it seems that consciousness starts at home. My sister is a religious person. She was one of the first female Priests ordained in the Anglican Church. Her drunken husband beat her close to death. Now she still has religion, but Time has been removed from her consciousness. She discovers everything new over and over.
I have to meditate for 20 minutes to loose Time.
She seems to have suffered damage to her Executive Memory function, where we test the truth of a memory against feelings. Feelings.
Sometimes when I'm in the heart of white-water I can feel the crack in the matrix. I call it the still-point. That is where I love to be. Wish I could take you there!
Consciousness is certainly a worthwhile field of study if you've got it and if you don't use it you loose it! Do you think the Buddhists have put more time and effort into mapping consciousness than the other religions? You could say that all religions are essentially on the same track but I think the Buddhists have the most practical approach. What do you think?
