I have attended the Parliament of Religions:
Melbourne 2009
Local Religious Community / Interfaith Affiliation:
I'm a solitary practitioner, alas.
I have come to PeaceNext looking for:
networking, interreligious exploration, friendship
I am inspired by:
Mae Yemanja, Thich Nhat Hanh's writings, also Jalaluddin Rumi's works. Deng Ming Dao's stuff is good too.
My favorite spiritual places:
Plum Village, Uluru, Wudangshan - Huashan (Taoist temple mountains), Java, Konya, Turkey.
I'd like to go to Rio on the 31st December when everybody walks to the beach for Mae Yemanja
I have only been to Uluru but the others seem so fascinating.
About Me:
I think the Javanese saying sums up my beliefs fairly well:
"God is within you. God is everywhere. But do not think you are God."
I'm interested in developing my spirituality further and working with interfaith groups to build a better world!

Ways of the orixas in Latin America

Posted on February 9, 2010 at 7:01pm 1 Comment

At the Parliament, there was one session on the orixa(orisha) religions in Latin America (Umbanda, Candomblé and Lukumi). This was headed by Rose Sackey-Milligan(lukumi) and Stanley Krippner(umbanda)

Ogun…

I am a member of the American Magic Umbanda House in Berkeley. I had a chance to visit one House in Rio de Janeiro when the URI Global Summit was there. Someday I'd love to go back to Brazil.

Dominic,
Ah, Mauritius...the Hawaii of Africa. Most Americans wouldn't have a clue where either country is (but then "America" is most of the Western Hemisphere, not just the U.S.A.). No, I'm not yet familiar with Javanese; there are people on this site who represent religions most of us never heard of. That is one of the features which make it fascinating.
