~The little book of BIG HUMILITY~

HUMILITY is always fertile ground for jokes, isn't it? A friend will mention an accomplishment, and before the rest of us can tease him, he'll say something like, "...and soon I'll publish my book," Humility and How I Attained It "... All humour and big smiles aside, (sincere) humility IS a GOOD thing, it's a peaceful thing...and it can make the day a bit more pleasant for all parties concerned! Rather than,"me first", humility allows us to say,"No,you first, my friend." Humility is the quality…See More

Dressing the body and mind in R*E*S*P*E*C*T.

 A favourite (Christian) Devotional site recently posed a question: "Does it matter how you dress for church?"...the following was my response...."My hope is that those attending worship services will recognize THEIR dignity before the The Lord and Creator of the Universe, and make it their aim to appear in, at the very least, modest attire. Scripture tells us that God made clothes for "Adam and Eve" so that they could cover their bodies. It is instructive to note that the Hebrew word…See More

Not long ago, I remember reading the following comment: "Women are leading the spiritual revolution. Two-thirds of our Fans and Members are testimony that the loving embrace of the Female Divine is alive and well."I wrote the following words in response, but later decided to give'em the old heave-ho... Well,I guess the topic and comment must have made an impression on me, because I've taken away the moth-balls and restored the response to it's cozy little blog spot. Okay,enough preface eh;…See More

"The saturated fats of "Mardi Gras" and everyday life..."

Hear Ye Hear Ye...It’s that time of year again!For those of the Christian tradition, today is the finale of "Carnival Season"( "carnival"being the Latin word for “farewell to flesh or meat").  Yes indeed, today is the famous, (or sometimes infamous,) "Fat Tuesday", or "Mardi Gras" in French. Personally, I prefer "Shrove Tuesday", derived from the word "shrive"; the name denotes a period of cleansing, wherein a person brings their lusts and appetites under subjection through abstention and…See More

A manner of life that is dominated by reverence for The Divine, that is displayed in a respect for fellow creatures,and that is visible to outside observers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
----The Peace Prayer (of St. Francis)
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

About Me:
One could say that I'm in love with love; the words of Elbert Hubbard ring true for me... "life in abundance comes only through great love;love is the immortal flow of energy that nourishes, extends and preserves. I'm quite an 'idealist',and sometimes a sentimental dreamer;I value and praise the imaginative,and the creatively fanciful!

*Third Order Franciscan [a member of a community of men and women in the world who seek to pattern their lives after Christ in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi.] Founded by St. Francis some 800 years ago,and originally known as the Brothers and Sisters of Penance,it's made up of the laity (men and women) and also secular clergy (deacons, priests,and, bishops.) Although Third Order Franciscans do make a public profession,we're not bound by traditional religious vows. Most Franciscans (of any Order) are Roman Catholic; however,there are also Old Catholic, Episcopal/ Anglican, Lutheran, Ecumenical and Non-denominational Franciscan communities.
