In 1996, I traveled to India where I had a spiritual awakening while studying Tibetan Buddhism. I went on Buddhist pilgrimage and spent some time at Kopan Monastery in Nepal before traveling to Tibet. Later, In 2001, I met Dr. Ewert Cousins, Former Advisor to the United Nations on issues related to global spirituality and the Vatican Interreligious Dialogue Council for more than 40 years. Ewert was Editor-In-Chief of the 25 volume series Encyclopedia of the World's Religious Quest and the Classics of Western Spirituality. In 2004, I went with Ewert and his wife Janet to the Barcelona Parliament where he presented on the World Spirituality Panel and also World Commission On Global Consciousness and Spirituality panel. The next year, I assisted Ewert and Janet with a series of essays for publication covering a range of topics including St. Francis, St. Bonaventure, St. Ignatius, the Coincidence of Opposites and Christian Mysticism, Hinduism, Traditional Oglala Lakota spirituality, and more. Ewert had visited India many times during his life, and was a big supporter of my interest in the country and Tibetan Buddhism. In 2008, I documented on film the Tibetan Freedom Movement in New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area for various internet TV sites. Then, in fall 2008, I traveled to the United Religions Initiative Young Leaders Program and Global Assembly 2008 in Sri Mayapur where I documented on film the conference and activities there. In the past two years, I have taken a special interest in the Oglala Lakota spiritual tradition, and especially White Buffalo Woman. She was a female spiritual being who visited the Lakota people and promised to return and unite the four directions, or "sacred hoop" in order to bring about peace on earth. Indigenous ways of knowing and prayer and also the Divine Feminine seem to be increasingly important—the film Avatar is a perfect example of how.
