Mother, culture and religions

Mother, culture and religions.

I choke every time I read about Mother. It reminds me how precious it is to tie the loose ends in life, expressing gratitude to the givers of benefit and recieveing blessings from your mother. Don't let a moment go by, pick up the phone and give her a call or better yet, go visit her. If she is not alive, there is a friends mother or a stranger that you can give that affection to. You'd be glad you did as I… Continue

People of many religious and ethnic backgrounds gathered Sunday to exchange stories of genocide and war. The event was held at the Center for Spiritual Living and sponsored by the Foundation for Pluralism and the World Muslim Congress.

"We are obsessed with our own tragedies, and sometimes it's hard to acknowledge others' tragedies," said Mike Ghouse, chairman of the event.

Spitting on Christians in Jerusalem

Spitting on Christians in Jerusalem

The Article from a Jewish bulletin follows my commentary.

Judging from the title, I hope you did not jump to the conclusion, that Muslims are the ones spitting on Christians. In this case the culprits are extremists from a different tradition. As an Indian, it caught my attention; it is our culture to express disgust by spitting. There was a guy in my town who had an incestual relationship with his daughter, and he shamelessly claimed… Continue

Haiti, Voodoo's view on the quake

Haiti, Voodoo's view on the quake

If you feel the temptation that your faith makes sense and others don't, ask yourselves, where does this arrogance come from? My comments follow the article – Mike Ghouse

By Elizabeth McAlister

Associate Professor of Religion, Wesleyan University

Vodouists in the Haitian diaspora are praying on their knees today, just as Catholics and Protestants are. Why did this devastating… Continue

It is the spirit of religion in action, I am so pleased to see the faiths jumping to action to find relief for the victims in Haiti. In Quraan, God says, you must race in doing good, you must compete in serving humanity. I would like you to quote from your holy book in the comments below.

Seeking Harmony in Malaysia

Seeking Harmony in Malaysia

I am pleased to see the following article by Imam Feisal. He has laid out how things are and then offered solutions.

However, as a person of faith, I would not have written, “The Herald, which decided to use the word "Allah" in reference to the Christian God.” – No sir, there is no Christian or Muslim God; it is God of all beings.

I am taken back with this particular paragraph, “My message to the Christian community in Malaysia is… Continue

Baptists and Muslims: different books, common word

This decade can be labeled as the decade of Pluralism, where emphasis will be placed on co-existence, aka Pluralism. I believe the moderate people of faith will step in and pave the way for peaceful co-existence. - Mike Ghouse

Baptists and Muslims: different books, common word

Baptists and Muslims:It began in January 2009 with a three-day meeting in Boston between 40 Baptist leaders and 40 Muslim leaders. Papers were presented. Prayers were said. Meals were shared.… Continue

What's God got to do with it? Universalizing God

Welcome to the Decade of Pluralism.

You will see more stories about God in this decade, every faith will make a serious attempt to universalize God, to let go of exclusive claims on God, and learn to believe that it is the same thing that created the universe.

I predict that the word "Causer" will be infused in the language to be inclusive with those who do not believe in the versions of God offered by the religions. The extremely religious orthodoxy will continue… Continue

Who Owns Allah?

The Malaysian Government may consider setting up a commission to figure out who owns Allah. From what I know, no one owns the word "Allah" nor does any one own "Allah". I can have one of the seven billionth (# of people) piece of God without asking permission from any one. And each part would be fullsome seven billion. You are welcome to steal my piece, I still would have it; owning one piece is like owning whole of the God.

Same formula… Continue

Tribute to a great Pluralist, Abdurrahman Wahid

Tribute to a great Pluralist Today at 6:59am

January 1, 2010.

A Great Pluralist*, Abdurrahman Wahid passed away.

He was considered Father of Pluralism in Indonesia

I read the news around 2:00 am up again at 6:00 AM to finish reading about Abdurrahman Wahid. A man I have come to admire for his understanding of Islam and its plurality and inclusiveness. I have read a few articles and had made up my mind to visit him some… Continue
