23–30 April - Nusantara Art Education Institute 10th Cultural Camp: Weaving Nusantara Arts, Vitalizing Indonesia

Endo Suanda, Director Nusantara Art Education Institute (LPSN) and

Adi Nugroho, Coordinator LPSN 10th Cultural Camp

 

This camp is a communication platform between teachers & students, art-types, perceptions, and Indonesian cultural areas. The participants will be arts teachers (national and private schools) and junior and high school students from the vicinity of Borobudur and from the longtime and new members of the LPSN network. In addition, this network spans across the areas of pesantren, seed-sowing foundations, and student gardens. There will be three types of activities:

(1) Workshops: "Making Bamboo Musical Instruments"; "Archiving Cultural Art Digital Audiovisual Data"; "Theater"; "Dance"; and "Batik"

(2) Student Debates on varied themes taking up the arts/culture

(3) Artistic Performances prepared by participants from varied provinces; and a performance and exhibition as a result of the workshops.

 

 

20–28 April - Music Composition Workshop with Children from vicinity of Borobudur

Tomoko Momiyama, musician / composer (Japan)

A music composition workshop including interviews with village elders and international participants about their connection to the temple. We can compose a music piece about religiosity, place, and myths of the present in between the past and the future to be performed at the Borobudur Temple.

 

  

22–30 April - Weaving 1,000 Bamboo Candi for Humanity

Suprapto Suryodarmo (Padepokan Lemah Putih, Solo); Paulus Mintarga (Rempah Rumah Karya, Solo); Sari Madjid (Jakarta); Ines Somellera (Empu Sendok Arts Station, Jakarta); Adi Purnomo (Mamo Studio, Bogor); Dr. Galih Widjil Pangarsa (Universitas Brawijaya, Malang); Yu Sing (Studio Akanoma, Bandung)

 

Participation begins by the collection of bamboo; involving the community in constructing each candi; and filling the media space designated for local community economic enterprises in the vicinity of the Borobudur Temple up to the Five Mountain Arts areas that are part of the cosmology of Borobudur.

- Waisak Day 6 May 2012 traditional ceremonies held at Candi Borobudur

 

 

 

The PROGRAM AGENDA includes a schedule of activities and list of over 150 artists, cultural specialists and scholars from the vicinity of Borobudur; Indonesian provinces; Asia; Europe; Australia and the Americas who will be contributing to events at Candi Pawon; and the Samudraraksa Ship Museum; Aksobhya stage; and Museum Karmawibhangga at the Borobudur Temple, Central Java, Indonesia.

It looks and sounds an amazing positive and inspiring series of events.

No doubt, the collective effort of a community which has committment and vision for Peace

and how to bring it about. Wishing the events can touch the heart of many

and produce a blossoming impact for the place and local socio-economic enterprise.

It will be great to receive videos or writng about the event as I will not be able to attend.
