Target: The Government of the Republic of Indonesia

Background (Preamble):

Violence in the name of religion still persists. Just a few days before Christmas, in the Indonesian City of Bekasi, another Church was attacked on Dec 18th 2009 (Santo Albertus Church, Bekasi).

Our Government and officials are unable to curb such acts of violence, clearly for lack of the political will.

Need support from the Global Community to pressurize our Government through the Indonesian Embassies/Missions in your respective countries. Shalom Salaam Sadhu Shanti..

Petition:

We, the undersigned, call on the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, and the United Nations to put pressure on the head of the state, to immediately act against the fanatics, extremists, and radicals who are let loose to destroy places of worship of faiths other than theirs.

@Abdul Malik Mujahid: Hello Sir, we met at the PWR Melbourne. May Peace be upon you. It's true the police came to the scene, but they did not do anything. This is the problem that we are having in Indonesia. While my Muslim friends were beaten up and attacked by the hardliners (they name themselves the Defenders of Islam), the police didn't do much. They only watched and being helpless. This is because the police are so afraid that if they did something to the defenders of Islam, that means the police would be against Islam. They are so scared and confused.

It is the same thing when churches were burned. Police were on the scene but many just looked at the culprits attacking the church. For they are afraid that by stopping the "muslims" from the attacking the church, they would be called the defenders of "infidels". It is a tragic situation. This is due to lack of education about the essence of religion. All they know are just doctrines. That is why the atrocities committed in the name of religion (in Indonesia is mostly the muslims), can't be controlled.
If more Muslims in the world and people of all faith would be so vocal and give pressure to the Indonesian government, they would immediately make a stop to it. That is why we need all the help we can get.

Christmas and New Years is coming soon. Every year there's always a tighter security in churches and shopping malls all over Indonesia. This year, they have prepared 16.000 bomb squad for security. Isn't this a sign that the Indonesian government should put a stop and have a clear stand about violations that is done in the name of God?

Anand,

My friend, please don't say sorry for doing the right thing. It is the responsibility of each one of us to speak up, to be religious is to mitigate conflicts and nurture goodwill.

I will draft a petition, get the signatures and make calls to the American Embassy to talk the people in behalf of Americans in general and Muslims in particular. I will make the calls to the embassies.

Let's do the work, and leave the result to God. I am always moved by the holy texts, in this instance the Bhagvad Gita, keep doing your dharma, the righteous thing and leave the fruit to God. there is a lot of wisdom in it.

Thanks for taking the initiative and let's work together in creating balance in the socieities.

Friends, i am so sorry to push you all on this. For, the former minister of co-operatives who issued statements in favor, and defending the group that attacked the June 1st Peace Campaigners last year, is now our new Minister of Religious Affairs. His appointment, as known to all, is a political move only. Otherwise, there is no dearth of more capable Muslim Scholars. He shall be in the office until 2014, we must actually HELP HIM to see things in clear light, so he cab be true to his job as the minister. Insya Allah, God Willing....

I have signed the petition.

I feel that the petition has been written thoughtfully. I was also happy to see that the Indonesian media reported it and the police arrived within minutes of the incident.

May Allah guide those who violate right to worship.

Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, according to the two earliest Islamic historians, even arranged a delegation of 60 Byzantine Christians from Najran in Yemen to worship in his own mosque in Madinah. Lead by their bishop, they had come to discuss a number of issues with the Prophet. When time of their prayer came, they asked the Prophet's permission to perform this in the mosque. He answered, "conduct your service here in the mosque. It is a place consecrated to God."

I don't think the Prophet will be pleased to hear what has happened to this Church just before the holidays.

May God bless these Christians with a happy and fearless holiday.

peace
