Featuring Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne who in 1958 founded the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement in Sri Lanka. For more than 50 years, the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement has been providing comprehensive development and conflict resolution programs to villages. It is based on Buddhist and Gandhian principles, including sarvodaya, or "progress for all" and also swaraj, or self-rule. Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne is an Earth Charter Commissioner and has been promoting the 16 Core Principles of the Earth Charter "not as beliefs, but as mutifaceted gems of wisdom." He has won many international awards including the Ramon Magsaysay Award, the King Boudouin Award for International Development, and the Gandhi Peace Prize.
